Cinquain Poems

We have been learning how to write Cinquain poems. It gave us an opportunity to use the new vocabulary we have been learning about this term 

First we watched this video.  Seeing all of these poems helped us to develop a clear idea of what we had to do to create our own poems.

Students creating their own slide shows to show what they have learnt.

Charlie created this slide show to illustrate the reasons why we need to look after water. We discussed why water is an essential resource for life and how our actions impact on the environment. She then created this slide show at home to show what she is concerned about. 

Mia then followed in Charlie's footsteps and created this slide show on the same topic. Great learning girls.

Idioms and Word of the week.

This term we will be learning a different idiom and word every week. We will then have to use them in our writing or when we speak to our friends, teachers of family.

We were making connections

We have been thinking about how we care for the earth and what our responsibility is, so we talked about why we collect food scraps to put into our compost bin. Here are our thoughts about it.

We read the story of "A Bad Case of the Stripes" written by David Shannon.

We also watched this video clip:

Listening to the story more than once helped us to retell the story in our own words. 

Kayla included all the key ideas and visited Mrs Schumacher to share her writing. Here she is with her Principals Award.

Kayla said: "I think it is my best writing ever."

We are learning to find information

We are learning to find specific information so we used this video clip to practise finding key ideas. 

We used bullet points to show the new facts. 

Describing water

We are learning about water and why it is essential for life. This activity we were learning about new words to describe water. Look at our lovely raindrops decorated with our words. 

Editing Eyes

We use these editing eyes to help us spot any missing words and punctuation. It also helps us find the spelling mistakes.

We used the website to help us find information on the different planets. We worked in groups to complete these reports.

We used the information to help us make a venn-diagram to compare Mercury and Earth. Everybody gave at least one fact. 

Writing about the floods in Clevedon

After the floods in and around the Clevedon area, we completed some amazing writing. Here are a few samples. Come and read the other samples in class.

Making a thinking map

We are learning to plan for our writing. We created a thinking map with all our ideas about being firewise. We completed it as a class before we started writing our own stories. Look at all our ideas.
